Inspired by the Free People Time research thesis, our tearoom is an invitation to slow down and reconnect to the ground. Reservations may be made to come by the porch and enjoy a personalized tea blend prepared by our resident herbalist while taking time to be present with yourself, the homies, or a creative project.

RESIDENT HERBALIST PROGRAM

Our resident herbalist program is made possible through a partnership between ITS-IN-SCOPE and Jardin De Altagracia, an herbal mysticism practice based in South Central Los Angeles. This residency is designed to provide ancestral medicine workers the space to be of service and in study within our community.

Altagracia Alvarado

Beginning in 2023, our inaugural resident herbalist is Altagracia Alvarado, the founder of Jardin De Altagracia and an archive caretaker for ITS-IN-SCOPE.

Altagracia is the inheritor of lineages of mysticism and natural medicine. Her personal path of devotion began in childhood, a gift from her parents, who nurtured her connection to Source through critical analysis of sacred texts and participation in interfaith practices and celebrations. She continued her spiritual formation by studying with Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish teachers. Simultaneously, she furthered her studies of gardening and herbalism with organizations like The Dobby Garden and Hood Herbalism.

By centering the ancient practices of contemplation, ritual and herbalism she supports others in nurturing their capacity to be present. She believes that access to ancestral tools and technologies is our sacred inheritance. Through guided self exploration, sound ceremonies and plant medicine she connects others with the timeless spiritual practices of the ancient world.
