Beginning January 2021, Memoryhaus 555, opened as an imagination of four walls, a porch, and a kitchen. A 960 sqft loft space off of Figueroa in Historic South Central Los Angeles was the site for an endeavor into placemaking informed by ITS-IN-SCOPE Neighborhood Studios thesis developed in conjunction with Meet The Youngs.

What became materialized in January 2021 expanded from the thesis into a living archive informed by the community that occupied the space-time the four walls and a central intention created. Named by founding fellow, Altagracia Alvarado, the Memoryhaus functioned as an alternative site for education, optimism and imagination for four years. An offering of place and a model for cooperative placemaking, the space served as a portal for collective learning and contemporary archiving through a curation of built environments and intimate experiences. A tearoom, printmaking studio, research library, cinemahouse, classroom, concert venue, store, and so much more this space was beloved by a community of artists, researchers, seekers, and memory keepers to whom we are most grateful to building and sustaining this project.
